This one sounds kinda rough, and is actually the least likely to be a cause for anyone who is sincerely seeking their spiritual path, but I still want to mention it. If you have a belief that abundance flows to those who reach out and grab it, no matter the ramifications or consequences, and that people who don’t do the same are losers, then you are missing a HUGE piece of the puzzle. Abundance is intended for your highest good, and your highest good is never going to be found in the act of mowing down everyone in your way. The good news is that you can seek help, change your perspective, and bring balance into your life–which is guaranteed to bring more abundance.
This can actually be the cause of Reason #1 for many people! In a nutshell, your Root, or Base, Chakra deals with security and stability in this physical world. If you have a long history of insecurity in this world, through experiences such as being physically abused or neglected, starving or being chronically hungry, being homeless or not having a safe place to live, you’ve likely adopted the belief that security and stability are hard to come by. Even if you are now prospering in comparison to those past experiences, there is the constant fear that without vigilance, you might return to that state. It could seem counter intuitive that focusing on NOT returning to that state would keep you from abundance…but as they say, energy flows where the thoughts go. If your thoughts are constantly on something you fear, fear is a very strong, and very powerful attracting emotion.
This bears a lot of similarities to Reason #2, in that it’s fear-based, but it’s more based on a fear that’s been projected onto the future. At some point you interacted with someone you perceived as “wealthy”, and you (or someone you cared about) got the $#!+ end of the stick out of that deal. It could also be that you yourself came into some money, then noticed folks started treating you differently, in a way you did NOT like at all. Listen to your words, and if you find yourself saying any of these things, you have wealth/abundance/money blocks: “Money is {the root of all} evil”, “Rich people are a$$holes”, “People only like him/her for the money”, “Money changes everything”, “I’m not a materialistic person”, “I don’t want to look greedy”.
For some people, relationships really are everything. When they say, “You mean the world to me!” they almost literally mean it. In this case, your community could be an intimate partner, a group of friends, your parents or ancestors, your immediate family, or even just a belief about the way people in your industry tend to present themselves. The problem comes when you identify so closely or empathetically with your community that you can’t bear the thought of going on without them. You’ll likely find yourself in a leadership capacity in a few communities, but there’s a limit as to how much farther along you’re comfortable growing or achieving. The bottom line is that you won’t risk being rejected, or no longer being venerated, by your group, so you stay within those boundaries…always looking to others for permission that they actually have no idea you’re seeking from them (and that you have no idea you don’t even need).
In some cases, this genuinely shows up as self-worth issues, where you don’t feel you’ve done enough in exchange. In other cases, this shows up as a scarcity mentality. In other words, you think someone else has to do without, in order for you to get yours. And/or you think there’s only so much to go around, and by the time your turn comes around, there can’t possibly be anything left. You might catch yourself uttering one of these phrases: “Money doesn’t grow on trees”, “This is my hard-earned money”, “Someone else needs that more than I do”, “Ohhhh, I really shouldn’t {buy this thing I like}”, “I’m not good with money”, “I’m always a day late and a dollar short”.
This is pretty self-explanatory, right? You are basically still attached to a belief/energy that did not originate in this lifetime. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t FEEL real in this lifetime–it certainly does, and that’s the problem!
